Backup will not restore/downlaod

    I recently did a back up of my entire site using this plugin. I just did an update of wordpress and of my theme and all the formatting is off. My hosting service for some reason does not have my database saved so I was glad I did an alternate backup with this service but now an error is being returned when trying to restore via this plugin and when I try to download the entire site onto my desktop It just returns a webpage with a bunch of text and hieroglyphs and does not even prompt me with a window to select the location of download/ complete the download.

    Please advise.
