Backups are not being saved to /wp-content/updraft/

    I’ve set up FTP backups in the plugin settings, and there appear to be backups in the WP dashboard. But those are useless. What I really need is SQL files in the directory /updraft/ on my server.

    Can someone help me understand why my database files are simply not being saved? Seems like a real headache and that this plugin just cannot be trusted with something that should be very straightforward. FYI, I’ve been building and administrating WordPress for years so it’s not as if I’m some newbie.

    Any pointers or clues appreciated.

    Good afternoon!

    Are you FTP-ing into the same directory in which UpdraftPlus creates its local copy? In that case, what’s happening is:

    1. UpdraftPlus creates the backup archive in wp-content/updraft
    2. UpdraftPlus logs into your configured FTP server (which in this case is actually the very same folder) and sends the archive over FTP to it
    3. UpdraftPlus then, having sent the archive and having had the FTP server confirm that it received it, deletes the original local copy…. which is also the remote copy because of the configuration….

    The result of that would be no backup, which presumably isn’t what you intended!

    If you don’t want to send the backup to any remote storage, then don’t select FTP or anything else. But certainly don’t select a remote storage that is the same as the local storage, as it’s redundant in any case, but will actually result in the above chain of events.

    You’ve lost me a bit with your use of the words “local” and “remote”. What exactly do you mean by “local”?

    Local means on your server, the default location is the wp-content/updraft directory of your site. Remote means uploaded to somewhere that is not on your server, for example, One Drive, or S3

    Ok, I’m not using a remote folder. I’ve now selected wp-content/updraft/backup/ as my backup destination
