• Hi,
    I use this plugin for several of my client’s sites and it’s been fabulous, thank you.

    However, recently, I’ve had trouble with several sites where, despite configuring it to only save 3 or 4 backups, the directory on the server is filling up with backups and causing the sites to exceed their disk quotas. While this is happening, the BackupWordpress interface is only showing the number of backups I’ve asked it to save.

    In case this is relevant, I usually choose my own backup folder outside the standard httdocs folder, and use the following code in my wpconfig file:
    define( 'HMBKP_PATH', '/home/pathtobackupdir/backupdir' );

    Any help gratefully received.

    Hey smoo, it could be an issue with you having a custom backups path.

    Could you try using the default path on one of your servers and see if that fixes the issue?

    Hi Tom,
    thanks for your response.
    I thought that might be the problem, and will indeed try using the standard backup path. However, it must be a recent change, because I’ve used this method for over a year with no problems until recently.

    The reason I moved the backup folders up and out of the main httdocs dir in the first place was because I’ve had a few sites hacked over the last year or two, and it seemed logical to try and keep the backups away from the site itself. Is there any merit in this idea do you think, or am I just kidding myself?!
    Thanks for any insight

    It does make sense to move the backups outside of your webroot although the backups directory is protected using a .htaccess file so no one but you can download them.
