• The directory where backwpup saves its fullbackup leaves al kind of temp files behind. after a long 4800 (75minites) only to backup 370mb, backwpup has left 4 temp files behind al ending with name.zip.a01234, etc. consuming 800mb of temp files. these 4 files corresponds to the amount of 4 timeouts (of 5 minutes) (WARNING: Job restart due to inactivity for more than 5 minutes.). with backwpup versie 2.x i never had any of these problems. i have tried and used al the 3.0X versions and the problem keeps existing. It’s quit frustrating as the hosting space is limited and providers keep bugging me.
backwpup is a fantastic plugin, but the new introduced version 3 has is driving me somewhere crazy and consuming wasted time due to errors which i had never before…
Any idea how to speed up the process again and get rid of the left temp files? Thanks

  • i’ve just discovered that the backwpup temp folder is the reason why the size of my site has been ballooning the past few days – many temp files uselessly left there making what was a 60MB site now around 1.6GB.

I have the same problem. Hundreds of MB increase the size of the files that must get backed up and also, I believe, making it harder to successfully complete the secondary backup to dropbox.

    Hi daniel and markwebstar!
By chance are you also backing up to dropbox? I thought this might be a clue to the problem. I am backing up to dropbox. And, I am getting errors during this process.

Here is a snapshot of my temp folder. Maybe this will help to diagnose the cause of the problem? Some of these files are pretty large.

Something went really wrong somewhere, I’m getting all the symptoms mentioned here and in other posts, so many issues and strange behaviors that it’s hard to list all of them.

Authors really need to take a good look at it all ??

i permed through the files and deleted the useless temps. have a look in wp-content > unloads > backwpup-temp and delete everything except index and htaccess. doing this has enabled me to run both backwpup and duplicator without errors.

i am backing up to drop box.

unrelated to this problem, around the same time i also asked my service provider to increase the php timeout length (at recommendation of the duplicator developer), which should also help with backing up large files.
