• They resolved my issue.

    It was the CDN.

    I’ll admit I was wrong.

    Sorry

    Hi there,

Sorry you’ve had trouble with the theme.

Is there a support topic that you’ve opened that I can check out?

The theme itself is fully mobile-friendly by default – it’s very simple to test that using this tool: https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly

    For example: https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly?url=https%3A%2F%2Fspeedtest.generatepress.com%2F

Many people are suffering the same issue, just google “generate press and not mobile friendly”.

As our support forum is public, you will definitely find a lot of these topics. This is because a lot of people use the theme, and as you add content and other plugins to your site, you can run into issues like this. That doesn’t mean the theme itself is the issue.

None of the threads are resolved. The admins always try and blame the user.

If you have any examples of this, I’d love to see them. We respond to and try to resolve every single support request we receive – we never blame the user and leave things unresolved.

No other theme has this issue out of the box though.

As I’ve shown above, the theme is mobile-friendly out of the box.

If you have opened a topic (I don’t see one here on WP.org), please let me know – I’m more than happy to investigate what’s going on with your website.

    Thanks!

Not true. Your “help” was to suggest to download autooptimize.

The theme is NOT mobile friendly. No other theme I have ever used has this error. I use the same plugins on all my other blogs and I tried to troubleshoot the issue by disabling plugins but still getting the issue!

of course I know the test grom google! Thats how I diagnosed the problem!

It’s very difficult to help out here without any context.

The only reason Autoptimize would help with the mobile-friendly test is if your tests are coming back “partially loaded”.

This can happen when there are too many resources, and the test quits prematurely. Some sources for that:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/2965981?hl=en
    https://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/114569/google-unable-to-load-all-page-resources-which-is-causing-script-errors-and-may

If you search for “Google mobile test partially loaded” you’ll find a lot more.

Again, this is just a guess, as I can’t find your support topic, so I’m not able to test your site.

If you’d like me to help you debug, feel free to point me in the right direction and I’ll be happy to.

I tried your support and your advice was to reactivate automotmize.

    Your theme is broken.

    (@edge22)

As I’ve shown above, the theme is 100% mobile-friendly.

I’m not able to find any support topics from you (either here on www.ads-software.com or in our premium support forum), but feel free to link me to it if I’ve missed it. I’ll be happy to take a look.

    Thanks.

What have you shown? You linked to an ad. Many many people have complained on this forum about Generate Press’s failure on the Google mobile-friendly test. Not a coincidence.

Your code is a mess. The exact same content on a different theme does not fail the Google mobile-friendly test.

I tried switching themes, and haza, it passes the test.

While I would have appreciated the opportunity to actually see the issue and help you find a solution, I’m happy you got something to work for you.

If you ever circle back and want to give GP another try but run into an issue, feel free to get in touch.

    Thanks!

    Mmmh.

@alfrapper I run several sites based on GeneratePress, and none of them has any problems passing search dot Google dot com slash test slash mobile-friendly.

I sometimes get errors like “Content wider than screen”, “Clickable elements too close together” or “Text too small to read” from the Google Search Console, but after having checked them several times and not finding anything to improve I now ignore just ignore them. Until now they are always resolved without taking any action. Seems more like a false alarm from Google …

Btw, Autoptimize is a plugin that bundles stylesheets and other resources to reduce the number of http-requests and is an accelerator for probably almost every theme.

    (@alfrapper)

I mean Generate Press is the only theme I have ever gotten the errors: “Content wider than screen”, “Clickable elements too close together” or “Text too small to read”.

Something is very wrong and there is no solution offered except try autoptimize.

Not a good idea to ignore this. “Mobile friendly” is a massive SEO factor.

For any readers of this review that may be experiencing Mobile Friendly issues, we wrote this support document to help demystify the issue:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/text-too-small-to-read-and-clickable-elements-too-close-together/

Our support forum has always addressed each Mobile Friendly issue individually. In some instances this has been to recommend Autoptimize, as the site required optimization to stop the false negative being triggered by Google ( see doc above ).

In many cases it has taken deeper investigation by the support team to identify the problem. The most common issues have been related to; cache optimization ( both server side and plugin), custom code added to the site, or another plugin that needed a little tweaking. We even go as far to work with other developers to ensure their code is more compatible with all themes. Here is an instance of doing so to eliminate a Content is too wide issue for a very popular plugin:

    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce-gutenberg-products-block/issues/965

But during my many years as a user of and more recently a support member for GeneratePress i cannot recall any instances where we identified a mobile friendly issue that was directly related to the theme.

Tom kindly offered to look at your site, as we could not find any evidence of you asking for our support. We would like to continue to extend this offer as maybe there is a simple cure to the issue you experienced.

    Thread Starter alfrapper

    (@alfrapper)

I don’t have woocommerce. The only plugins I have are Elementor and Elemtor pro.

    Autoptimze does nothing.

Here are the diagnostics straight from google:

Tested on: Oct 29, 2020 at 12:57 PM
    Page is not mobile friendly
This page can be difficult to use on a mobile device
    Fix the following 2 issues

    Clickable elements too close together

    Text too small to read

It would be easier to diagnose the issue if we could see the site.
But those two issues are what i detailed in the topic i linked to above.

If thats not possible then on the Mobile Friendly test – click the Page Loading Issues > View Details

Are you seeing either of the robots.txt or other errors besides any files that it lists ?

    Thread Starter alfrapper

    (@alfrapper)

Sorry, not linking my site to this forum.

If you want you can send a link to us at:

    [email protected]

If not then you can check the issues i mentioned above.

@alfrapper those seem like false positives that I also sometimes get and that I recently validated in Google Search console. At this time, you are just complaining (not that your complaints are not valid) rather than seeking a solution to your issues. You just don’t give a theme a one-star rating before even seeking support in the support forum. It helps to open a support topic or to read the theme documentation so any issues can be rectified if indeed they relate to the theme. Case in point, I was one of the people who identified several minor issues with the version 3.0 of the theme and I opened several support tickets to have them rectified. And guess what? They were!
