• Normally I don’t post these kind of reviews, but this needs to be said:

    1. Unprofessional transition
With such a widely used plugin used on third party components, it should have been communicated much more clearly, shouting even with admin area banners (not just release notes) until clicked away, that the premium version would break functionality. And, a transition period should have introduced, for at least a month or so, as any professional companies does when things can break in production, giving people time to notice and prepare for the change.

    2. 30 dollars a year is way too much for such a small element in a website.

    3. A small element such as captcha should not be put in the parent menu, and definitely NOT IN UPPERCASE. Trying to get attention? Best to return it to its former humble position under settings.

Commercially, an understandable and smart move, buying the plugin, but poorly and greedy executed. A 30-day transition time, 10 dollars a year, and old menu position would have gotten you way more sympathy credits, and made free users more easily buy it instead of moving to other captcha plugins.

Just some feedback. Awaiting your copy paste comment.

    Hello @tezalsec

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. These are all valid points. Below please find the answers:

    1) Unprofessional transition – We have experimented in the past with a couple of different means of notifications, but none are as effective as the change log and an admin notice. In this transition we have:

1.a) Highlighted the change as a breaking change in the change log and release notes
1.b) Added an admin notice in the plugin
1.c) Changed the version number from 6.X to 7.X so the plugin is not automatically updated (in many cases, users have auto-updates for minor version updates and not major updates).

Unfortunately there is no way to trigger an admin notice before running the update. Looking back, I admit that we could have released another version update before this one, but based on experience it would have helped a very small group. Having said that, we could have, so we could have done this better and I excuse myself unreservedly about this.

    2) I won’t discuss any prices on this forum. This forum is for the free edition of the plugin.

    3) Regarding the plugin’s menu location, that’s a matter of opinion. For some people CAPTCHA is really important, for others maybe it is less.

In regards to the uppercase, CAPTCHA is a technical acronym and it is written in uppercase.

Regards the rest, We do offer a transition time. We actually offer a 90-day transition time – we are giving a 90-day license for people to continue using the plugin, and to give them time to decide what they want to do next. If you have been affected by this change, please request your transition key using this form.

I’d like to thank you again for your valuable feedback. Should you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask and have a good day.
