• My image files seem to meet all criteria for the smush.it plugin (jpg, gif, under 1MB) yet, I’ve still been getting the ‘bad response from smush.it’ error for days now on each and every file in my media library.

    Here’s my debug error messages:

  • Hi @nilesgiberson,

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.

Are you facing this issue recently? Was it working fine for you?

Have you updated/deleted/edited anything recently that caused this issue?

Could you please try smushing images from your site directly by adding its URLs on the following page and check whether they are smushing or not?

    https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/

    Kind Regards,

yes, it’s always been this way since I created this website a few weeks ago.

on the actual smush.it website, my images comes through saying “Smush.it did not find any saving of your image(s).”

It’s just weird because usually if there are no savings, it at least will say that it processed and that it found no savings in the WordPress media library backend…instead it just says…”bad response”.

    Hi @nilesgiberson,

    Thank you for your reply.

I can see the images from other site is getting smushed on https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/ but not from your site like https://www.nilesdesign.co/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/aunties-packaging-full.jpg.

The plugin works is the URL to the image is passed to the Smush.it API. So the image needs to be accessible by public URL. if you have any special rewrite rules or such this might be the issue.

Could you please try smushing images on https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/ by taking image URL from other site and if it gets smushed then upload the same image on your site and try smuashing that uploaded image to make sure that the Yahoo smush.it service can access your images?

    Hi @nilesgiberson,

I just wanted to mention a bit more as the developer had a look at this and noticed you’ve got a redirect, which unfortunately entails it won’t work with Yahoo’s smush.it service.

You can check that out by entering your image urls here:
    https://www.rexswain.com/httpview.html

    You’ll see there’s a 302 redirect. That’s the reason you’re getting a bad response.

Any normal URLs without redirects will work just fine though.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi @nilesgiberson,

I had also noticed the redirection issue on your site as @david has mentioned in his last reply but now i found the images from your site is getting smushed without redirection issue.

Have you managed to fix the issue?

    Regards,
