Badge and notif in admin bar

  • Hello Peter: thank you for the thoughtful utility plugin.

    I just tried it, and it was tricky to find the chat itself (I never have any reason to visit the WP dashboard).

    As far as I can tell, this plugin does not have any sort of chat notif. Or perhaps I’m missing it? I think it does not add a notif badge to Dashboard icon in sidebar to show waiting messages. I think it does not add its own badge badge and notif to the WP admin bar.

    Is there a technical reason for not having any sort of chat notification anywhere? Some of my other plugins notify me of their status changes in the admin bar. And, it is the most common place users expect chat status, across most UIs.

    If you could add this, it would definitely be useful and worth paying for! I’m happy to pay for the plugin to support development, but a chat window taking up valuable horizontal real estate is not best for me, I think the badge is a much better way to go.

    Especially if clicking the badge could open a popover/lightbox, for quick response-and-dismiss without leaving context.

    Also I think it would be nice to be able to mention other WP users, I can’t figure out how to do that. Possible?

    Hello,
    thank you for your feedback. I know about “tricky to find the chat itself” problem, I will try to do something with that with next update.

    And about chat notifications, right now there are only sound notifications – when you have chat in inactive browser window or tab, it should play sound with new message. Alternatively you can install Android app to get all messages and notifications on your phone.

    Chat window must be somewhere, horizontal chat is too wide and short to display messages. You can always drag it to anywhere else.

    Currently there is no option to inform wp users that you have installed plugin, they’re just have to open chat window or run Android app.

    There is a lot “to do” with this plugin, it was my first project as a developer. I will try to update it soon, but cannot tell you when exactly.
