I have tried enabling banned user option by clicking on the check box and saving the settings. However it is not taking effect. I go back and check the Dashboard and it says that I should enable it and low and behold it is not enabled. I have placed several IP addresses in this section in the past and wonder now if its not doing anything.

  • Hi,

Could you try saving it with all other plugins deactivated? If you look in your .htaccess do you see the IPs there?

    Thanks,

I discovered that if there are no IP addresses save in the option then that Banned User setting would stick. I tested it with one regular notated IP address as well as an IP address using wildcards and it seems to work properly now.

I tried the same there and whilst it worked when having a couple in there, using my list it didn’t.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Chris

    Hi,
    I have the same issue.
I’m running iThemes Security 4.5.2 on WP 4.0.1 Multisite.
It’s only possible to activate it at network level (not at site level).
I can’t check anymore “Ban Users: Enable ban users”.
I hoped 4.5.2 fixed this issue but it’s still there.

    Thanks
    Davide

I am having this exact same issue.
It’s one of the main reasons I use iThemes Security. This plugin has always been stable for me and worked very well.

The “Enable ban users” checkbox is not working. I check it, then click “Save All Changes”.
At the top of the settings screen it then says “Settings Updated.”

I scroll back down to “Banned Users”. The box is unchecked, as if I didn’t just check the box. I’ve tried this over and over, and the “Enable ban users” box will not stay checked.

I have not installed any new plugins in a long time that might cause a conflict.

The “Enable ban users” has always worked for me. This is the first time I’ve had a problem. Without this functionality, I can’t keep using iThemes. It’s a major part of all the security plugins that I know of, and the most useful feature for me.

What is going on with this functionality?

I noticed in my case if the banned user list was empty and I simply clicked on save the option stayed saved. I had in the past used wildcards in the IP address as well as normal notated IP addresses in my list. See if saving an empty list makes the option stay saved or not.

I had reverted to using another plugin when I discovered IThemes was not saving the changes for banned IP address. I just tried saving a normal IP address and noticed something strange. When I clicked on Save Settings instead of staying on on the iThemes configuration page I was sent over to the Visit Site display in WordPress. Any one else seeing this happening?

Using WordPress 4.0.1 and iThemse Security Version 4.5.2

Why would you save an empty banned user list? That’s the same as having a non working banned user list…

Leonard Shelby because I wanted to see if having IP addresses in the list was causing the save problem not to work.

How does that fix the problem?

Leonard Shelby because it may have iThemes figure out what is going on and in the 4.5.2 version of iThemes doing that seems to make going back and adding IP addresses aftewards stick albeit for some reason now I am being sent to the Visit Site page after clicking on Save Changes here.

It sounds to me like they are part way in the process of removing this feature from the free plugin. The par that is working is redirecting users to their site so you can buy the pro version. I hope this isn’t the case.

In my case it generates an IP list to be banned but I get the constatnt email from the plugin saying that this <ip> is blocked for 60 minutes but after just 4 minutes I get the same email from the plugin that plugin has banned this ip. My mailbox is full due to this and I am unable the attackers ip.. Need to be fixed..

It seems this feature has a lot of problems kamapisachihd. I’m not getting the same problem as you, but I still cannot get the “Enable ban users” box to stay checked.

I’m also getting my email flooded with notifications of banned users. I used to immediately ban those IPs, but now that I’m unable to do this, those IPs keep attempting to hack my site over and over, and they keep getting banned for attempting to login as “Admin”, which generates more email notices.

iThemes, please be a good WordPress community member and at least let us know if this is a bug that you are aware of, a bug you are working on, or a feature you are removing. This thread is up to 13 posts now and 2 weeks old.

    Thank you.

I have the same problem. iThemes, do you have a fix for this or is this something you are not supporting? Please let us know so we can move on to a different plugin!

This is still occurring in Version 4.6.4 it is impossible to ban IP addresses either fully noted ones or ones whose 2nd through 4th octet are *. When I click on Save settings, instead of the site remainining on the WordPress interface page I am automatically sent to the preview or visit site view.

I had to resort to using another security plugin to block repeatted failed login attempts
