Base URL being automatically pre-pended to images when posted

Hi,
I’ll try to be as clear as possible, but it’s a little confusing.
I’ve been using WordPress for a while, I used it before the media library. Recently I’ve started blogging again and changed domain. In the old days I would add an image:
<a href="steven.vu/wp-content/photos/Richard.JPG" target="_blank" title="Richard"><img src="https://steven.vu/wp-content/photos/thumb_Richard.JPG" width="126" height="130" alt="Richard" /></a>This would then be posted:
https://steven.vu/2005/05/weekly-media-columnist-richard-bartle-tubbs/
Here’s the weird bit, when I view the page, the image has changed. It’s now clickable with the url:
I know media library is trying to be smart, but I’ve now got 400 broken links
