So, I want to post from WP to tumblr. I find this thing: Tumblr Crosspostr. Looks good. So I read instructions. Instructions say:
    1. Download the plugin file.
    2. Unzip the file into your ‘wp-content/plugins/’ directory.

I have no wp-content/plugins/ directory on my computer, so how can I possibly unzip into it?

I’m running win7. I don’t understand why this is so difficult.

The directory referred to there is not referring to a folder on your computer, it’s referring to a folder on your web host’s server. But regardless, those are instructions for manual installation. You can also just log into your WordPress website, go to the Add New Plugin screen, type “Tumblr Crosspostr” into its search box, and click on the “Install” button that appears. This is called “automatic installation,” and is the standard way to install plugins on WordPress sites.

You can read more about plugin installation on the WordPress manual, or by finding any of the countless articles explaining this process in detail on the Web. Any search engine can find those articles for you.

OK – so I have a free WP hosted blog, and apparently you can’t install plug ins with that. Oh well.
