• We’ve been using bbPress for a couple months and have been pleased with it. We migrated from vBulletin 4.x, as we were looking for a much simpler forum solution that was well integrated with WordPress and would cut down on spam registrations/posts. The importer for vBulletin that was included with bbPress 2.3 worked for moving over users and about 1500 posts.

Allowing anonymous posting in bbPress has worked well for us (“Allow guest users without accounts to create topics and replies”), which makes it very similar to WordPress comments. Akismet does an excellent job with spam topics/replies, and we also use a couple plugins: bbPress Moderation (hides topics/replies pending validation), and bbPress reCaptcha. We also use bbPress Genesis Extend plugin, which is essential if you are using a Genesis child theme.
