This is true. The choice was made to put a link in there by default so that it works out of the box. Using an external link means that the tab works on every page and this has been a good solution to show how it works upon plugin activation. It has been this way from day one, all the way back to 2012.

This is NOT true. The settings page saves the data that you put in there. It does not revert back to our domain. That is simply not true. There are 9000+ Active installations. That speaks for itself.
