Right after installation and activation the plugin requires you to grant access rights to all kinds of services. Obviously this comes at a price.
If you actually click on the “Terms of Service” link, you’ll find this:

“Links to Other Sites and/or Materials
As part of the Service, the Company may provide you with convenient links to third party website(s) (“Third Party Sites”) as well as content or items belonging to or originating from third parties (the “Third Party Applications, Software or Content”). These links are provided as a courtesy to Service subscribers. The Company has no control over Third Party Sites and Third Party Applications, Software or Content or the promotions, materials, information, goods or services available on these Third Party Sites or Third Party Applications, Software or Content.”

You need to decide for yourself if you want to use it or not. I didn’t.

    Hi Andre and Kainer,

I’m going to check this out, could you send us a link where you found that information? Because our terms of service can be found here:

I closed the site and deleted the plugin already.
How about you install the plugin and see for yourself?
After activation the window requiring to grant rights will show up. In the footer of this window click on “Terms of Service”.
Do I have to explain to you how your plugin works?

    Hi Andre!

Thank you very much for your reply! I already have found the page where you are talking about.

We are using Freemius as a provider for our premium functions, we were not aware that the text was a part of their TOS. We have contacted Freemius and asked for the intentions of that part and how our plugin is involved.

We, the plugin Buttonizer do NOT add any links to your webpage or website. The part may refer to other plugins or Paypal/Stripe for payments. We are not sure yet.

We are waiting for the response of Freemius. I hope to get back to you soon as soon we get response back.

Do you have notification on follow-up replies on this topic enabled? We’d like to keep you up to date.

@picturebreeze @kainer my name is Vova, and I’m from Freemius, the SDK that Buttonizer is using. I’d like to clarify a few things.

    1. First of all, you are not required to opt-in, you can skip it.
    2. The Terms of Service we link to show our general terms of service, including the terms related to our website. The specific clause you quoted is not relevant for the plugin; it discusses links on our site. For example, we have a blog, and in some posts, we link to websites that we don’t control, so it is part of our terms. So to clarify, the SDK doesn’t add any promotional links to 3rd parties – don’t worry about it.

Kindly reconsider your review, it is just a misunderstanding. Plus, we’ll work on making it clearer to avoid this confusion in the future.

Sorry but the fact that there’s another company beside the developer involved, is reason enough for me reject this plugin. That’s neither what I was looking for, nor what I expected. I don’t like any data submitted to third parties. Or at least I’d like to clearly know what I’m getting into to make an informed decision.

    Hi Andre,

We understand your concern. We use Freemius as our tool for license registration and support. You can choose to skip the opt-in and then no data will be tracked. So you can use buttonizer without sharing any data. The data that we track is php version, wordpress version, buttonizer version, free or premium, name, email, website, language and uninstall reasons. The data is used as extra data for our support team to better help if there are some issues in using the plugin.

I totally agree that our communication in the opt-in can be better and more clearer in which data gets tracked. We will change the opt-in message in our next update. Thank you Andre for taking the time to respond to us and giving us feedback. In this way we can learn and change for the better. We hope that you will find what you where looking.

    @svovaf thanks for the clarification
