It has been almost a year that I keep receiving the following notification from Yoast, can you please help me resolve it?

“Because of a change in your permalink structure, some of your SEO data needs to be reprocessed.
We estimate this will take a couple of minutes.”

I confirm the issue persists after running the SEO data optimisation on my website (I have run the optimisation at least 10 times by now). I already deactivate and reactivate the Yoast SEO plugin temporarily and after a couple of weeks I received the notification again.

    A couple of notes:

I changed permanent link structure to “/%category%/%postname%/” a week after I created the website (3 years ago).
I also don’t have any other SEO plugin on the site (Including Yoast I have 10 up to date active plugins on the site).
I use the same theme on another website and I don’t have this issue with the Yoast (so it’s not the theme).
I have had a huge drop (more than 90%) in the last months (not sure if it’s related but worth mentioning).
I can provide you with the login details of my website if that’s needed.
Using Yoast I removed the slug “category” from the URL (3 years ago when I installed Yoast)

    Thanks for looking into this

@shss We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

We understand that you received this notification:

Because of a change in your permalink structure, some of your SEO data needs to be reprocessed. We estimate this will take a couple of minutes.

From v15.1, the Yoast SEO plugin can now detect the home URL or permalink structure changes. And since it’s a significant change, Yoast SEO needs to run the SEO data optimization again. However, we understand that you haven’t changed anything related to the notice but you are seeing the notification and it’s confusing for you; we apologize for any inconvenience.

Furthermore, you can also choose to ignore the warning and wait for a week or so, until Yoast SEO automatically processes most of your content in the background.

Are you using any other plugins or features of your theme that might be modifying the permalinks or rewrites?

    Thanks for getting back!!

I often try to ignore it or just run the optimization but the fact that it appears so often makes me think if Yoast SEO is changing the rewrites?

I use a few plugins and non of them have the ability to change permalinks or rewrites (as far as I know).

    Hi @shss

If the Yoast SEO plugin detects any permalink structure change, no matter how small, which could be caused by a permalink structure change, some kind of plugin that is modifying your permalinks, or something else entirely, it will request to re-run the SEO data optimization, which is for the indexables, text link counter, and prominent words calculation (premium). However, this won’t affect or change the actual permalink structure.

Can you please try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
    1. Install & activate the?Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation’, and ‘Reset Internal link counter’ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that each reset was successful. Note: this won’t actually erase your SEO data, which is also stored in WordPress’ default tables. It’ll just reset our index (custom tables) for that data.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your?content.

For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating or removing plugins. Learn more about the benefits of regular backups.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, we’d have to investigate your website further, which we are unable to do so over these public forums. You might want to consider Yoast SEO Premium if you want to avail of premium personal email support, and so we can take a closer look at your setup.

Thanks a lot for the clear guidance! I followed the steps and everything went smooth. Hopefully I won’t get the notification again and if I do, I will consider the Premium version so you can take a closer look.

Can I delete the Yoast Test plugin or I should keep it active?

    Thank you

    Hi @shss

We’re glad to be of help.

You can deactivate and delete the Yoast Test Helper plugin. It’s only used in order to reset some data, as well as some other options or settings that are used for staging or development sites. It won’t affect the use of the main Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin if it’s removed.
