• I’m just developing my first wordpress site for a friend of mine. I uploaded the site to a sub folder of a site I own. It’s almost done but I’m just realizing that there will be quite a bit of work to change servers and change domain names. I think I really should have developed it locally. Is developing the site locally the best approach? Do you guys develop it locally first and then upload when it’s ready to publish?

  • It’s super easy either way. Use a plugin like WP Migrate DB that lets you run a find and replace on the database and then just FTP the files down to your machine and then back up to the new server. Import the file WP Migrate DB gives you into the new database, change the config file with the new (maybe) database credentials and you’re good to go.

Personally, I develop on a server at the office or locally at home if I’m helping out friends/family/etc.
