Beginner w/ Page Builder Question

I just discovered these various page builder plugins like Woorockets’ and SiteOrigin. However, I’m running into problems actually trying to use them to construct a layout, maybe it’s me, because I’m not very experienced in this area. But what I’d like to do is use a theme that has a big hero style image with a big headline over it, and then use the page builder to construct the rest of the page. I found a nice theme, Zerif Lite that has the type of header look I want, but you can’t seem to use it with a Page Builder, you have to use the theme’s built in template thing or whatever. I tried Vantage, which is the free theme that goes with SiteOrigin’s page builder, but couldn’t figure out how to make a full width header image with text over it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
