Behaviour different if customer not logged in.

Hi,
I have a product options for giving a membership number to purchase the renewal. If the customer is logged in then the number they input appears on the email which is generated and sent to the store owner. If a user is not logged in then this number doesn’t seem to transfer onto the checkout or the further emails.
