• Taking a few minutes to share our experience with this Braintree for WooCommerce plugin and support team.

Back in December, we had a few questions about a couple of specific features and future plans for this plugin that we sought answers to from the support team. We were doing our diligence before selecting one and licensing it. The team behind this plugin was incredibly responsive to our questions, of which we had two.

Of the first, they described already having a certain enhancement under development for a future release.

And of the second, they took the time (Clayton, in particular) to learn more about the details of our request and ultimately agreed to try and provide support for it as an enhancement in a future release.

While we waited to see if there would be concrete follow-up, we elected to use another very popular Braintree Gateway plugin that we’d also read good things about. It had the benefit, too, of having that second feature already implemented, which, while small in scope, was important for our intended use case.

While that other gateway plugin turned out to be passable, it ended up being only that. Passable.

With last week’s release of this plugin’s v2.5.5, we checked back in with Clayton and team and learned that both the enhancements we were tracking on were implemented into this one release! Those and several more, actually.

So we planned the switch over, and in a short amount of time, we were on it in our live environment. The transition was seamless.

What we learned then was that in addition to having both of our key features enabled with this release, the fundamental and operational behavior of this gateway plugin was much more intuitive and robust than the interim solution we used. Simple, yet important things, like that an order moves to a Processing state (with only authorization rather then capture, by default) rather than On Hold just worked. The prior solution put these orders On Hold, which left our customers a bit confused until we were ready to capture their purchase upon shipping. The drop in forms are much nicer in appearance and customization, feature rich, and easily tuneable to get just the type of checkout experience we wanted to offer.

Obviously, we’re very pleased with this plugin and we highly recommend it for those seeking one to integrate their Braintree payments account with WooCommerce.
