I’ve been using markdown to write my blog and use a 3rd party editor along with Dropbox to create and store all my posts before importing them into WP for final publication.

I have a question regarding the best way to format these text files before I import them into WP. Is there a best practice with regard to the format of the text file so as to allow for the most options if I need to re-import them into another site?

Here’s a sample of the way I’m currently formatting the files. I’d love to know if there’s a better way. Should I move the Categories and Tags below the title?

Title: This is the title of the blog post

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Curabitur quam risus, ultrices et metus sit amet, pellentesque faucibus dui. Aenean ultrices congue diam, sit amet rhoncus mi dignissim vitae.

    A few follow up questions:

    – Should I include an Excerpt?
    – Should I add the date?
    – What about using a comments tag around the meta data (title, tags, excerpt, etc.) so that it doesn’t show up in my markdown editor?
    – Is the Format (Video, Link, Standard, etc.) important to include?
