I am about to revamp completely my site; I am testing Pinnacle free in WAMP and like it a lot! I downloaded the demo in order to better understand the functionnalities.
Since I will be searching and using new images, I would like to know what are the optimal image size to upload for each categories of images: header, gallery, portfolio, blog grid, etc. I can manipulate the photo size with “GIMP” (sort of a free Photoshop) before uploading in order to fit what would be best in term of pixel size.
I understand we can use pretty much any size since Pinnacle will resize them but in order to speed the site, I was always told it is better to load the proper size right from the start. Also, I read the images should not be too small; but what is “too small”?
For example, you suggest 16×16 for the favicon. I tried and image 500×500; oh, it works but it takes a long time to appear.
I am thanking you in advance.

  • Hey,
There is no set rule. In general for portfolio, gallery, blog posts I suggest uploading a size that will look good in a lightbox like 1200x1200px or 1400x1400px. Then the theme will crop it to fit where it needs it on the page. Make sure you size for web and use compressed jpgs.
For the site header something more like 1800px x 800px is usually good but it depends on the image. Some items you can get away with a smaller image.
