Best install to upgrade easily

    Started our intranet site with Web Matrix. Finding it difficult to update wordpress and theme. Have new server to build on. VM Win 2008 R2. Starting from scratch and have been going through all the types of installs. Each component individually, WAMP, BitNami, XAMPP. I want to be able to update and keep current easily, without problems. Intranet website self hosted. Any suggestions?
    Have trouble updating wordpress and theme (would update automatically and now it wants to go through ftp, cannot delete plugins, at times issues adding media with web matrix, have changed size limit. Looking to add blogs for internal user groups and use as CMS.
