After finding out that WP Engine’s CDN interferes with Imagify’s ability to create picture tags as well as the fact that they claim that their CDN generates optimized images, I’ve started to spiral a bit with some questions.

First. Is there a way to utilize Imagify’s built in function to serve next gen formats on WP Engine instead of using the CDN?

Second, if not is there still any benefit to enabling “Display images in Next-Gen format on the site?”

Third, assuming that in this scenario there is no way to utilize Imagify’s native image handling is there still a benefit to using Imagify on WP Engine sites and if so what is the best way to call images from the media gallery so that Imagify is able to work it’s magic?

    Thank you

    Hi,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Since WP Engine’s CDN may interfere with Imagify’s ability to serve WebP through <picture> tags, we recommend testing which tool works best for you. You can temporarily disable the WP Engine CDN to see how Imagify handles next-gen formats, then decide which solution fits your needs better.

Even if WP Engine serves WebP, Imagify still provides value by optimizing the original images and reducing file size for better performance. If you prefer using WP Engine’s CDN for WebP, you can keep Imagify enabled for image optimization and let the CDN handle the delivery.

Let me know if you need further help!

    Best regards,

    Thank you for the reply.

How does Imagify serve picture tags? Is it done before the page is rendered?

I’m trying to understand the interplay here since it may have an effect on page speed optimization.
