Hi, i have some variable products that only have attributes that do not change the image of the product, like “Size”, so all variations share the same image. Should i leave the variation image empty and only set the product image or should i also set the each variation image? The final result in term of UX is the same, when the user clicks on the attribute the image remains the same, im just wondering what’s best in terms of performance and most important in terms of SEO, will crawlers like google think i have missing pictures if i don’t fill in an image for all variations (just an example)?
    Thanks.

  • Hi @negapo,

I understand you have variations that are represented by the same image and you’re looking to know if to leave the variation images empty and only set the product image.

For SEO purposes, I believe it’s best to set the variation images. This will help ensure each variation has an image when they’re indexed and shown in search engine results. I’d give each variation image a unique name (e.g Variation small, etc.).

If the images are optimized before uploading, then setting multiple images shouldn’t matter in terms of performance.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks Sunday,

I do understand the upside of using unique names for the same images but in my case the downside of having plus 20 requests for images would be worse with the amount of traffic we get. But i will set up the images on the all variations even when they are the same as the main product images.
