Hi there, I was hoping you could help us with some advice, please.

We run a membership-based shop and are using this plugin. We have an issue where, when new members buy a membership, they don’t notice the opt-in checkbox at checkout. This has resulted in 99 members out of our 184 members in total not being signed up to our newsletter and we’ve had complaints from members as to why they haven’t been receiving the newsletter. We’ve tried to explain to them that unfortunately, they have to actively sign up to the newsletter themselves, but yet then they don’t seem satisfied with that answer and have said to us that they would expect to automatically receive the newsletter as members; which we understand and completely agree with…

So my question is to you; what is best practice in terms of ensuring our members receive our newsletters?

It currently isn’t possible to make the Mailchimp checkbox a ‘yes/no’ mandatory checkbox, which otherwise, I would have thought was a good solution (please consider implementing this feature/option!). Also, it doesn’t seem possible to manually make new/’non-subscribed’ contacts able to receive newsletters once added to the contact catalog in Mailchimp.

Anyway, your advice on this will be greatly appreciated as it’s very frustrating for us that we cannot maintain good relationships with our members because of this (we know for a fact that we’ve at least lost 2 members because of it).

Hope you can help and many thanks!

Hi @skafte, Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the delay. Here at the plugin team, we focus on the engineering of the plugin between your store and Mailchimp. At the moment, we’re not the best resources to provide best practices as noted.

If you’re interested, check out the Mailchimp Experts Directory for possible candidates to help you on your project: https://experts.mailchimp.com/
Good luck with everything and let us know if there’s anything else we can do.

    Hi there @khungate,

    Thanks for your response.

I understand, but how about my idea of making it optional to have a mandatory ‘yes/no’ checkbox at checkout? -that would solely have to do with the plugin and could solve the issue in a simple way.

Hope you’ll consider this and many thanks!

Hi @skafte, that may be an option for the use-case as described, but it would best to engage a 3rd party to implement something of that nature if it’s needed right away. At the moment, our product roadmap does not include that type of feature. I’ll be happy to pass this suggestion along to the team for further consideration.

    Hi there @khungate,

Thanks for your honesty – much appreciated!

I’ll have a think about what to do and probably see if I can build a solution myself. But I hope you’ll share this with your team and that you’ll consider it. Doesn’t seem to be a very unique need in my eyes and I think it would be a great optional feature to implement! Essentially, I believe that it would lead to a lot more people signing up to newsletters, which in return means more satisfied Mailchimp users and an increased need for pro-accounts ??

    Thanks again!
