Best practice when converting to WP

    4 weeks into WP and itching to convert my existing site. Before I jump in I’d appreciate advice on any design considerations on converting my “View our Catalogue” page –

    In particular I’m interested in how best to convert the Search options that at present use individual DB tables to populate the drop down lists. Many months of learning went into the php/mysql coding that converts the selected options to a query.

    Bearing in mind that I have the existing DB I fancy the OOP coding route but then I suspect I will miss out on many WP benefits. So with my new WP Bible to hand can I ask for help in deciding on Widgets, Plugins or OOP classes etc for the items on my new WP webpage.
