    Hey!

I’m developing a website for a university society. It needs to be relatively simple (some information, photos, documents, event calendar etc.) but also look fairly professional/corporate, which is why I am planning on using WordPress.

I’m not fully sure what subscription plan to use. I know what domain I would like to use.

Firstly, considering the premium payment plan of £7 per month, which includes a free domain for one year, would that monthly price be reduced if I already own a domain (say from Google Domains)? What would the process be for either hosting and registering the domain all on WordPress vs buying a domain from Google and then hosting on WordPress?

Secondly, I am not sure if the personal plan or the premium plan is better. Is it more advisable to get the personal first and then upgrade to premium if personal is not enough, or can I downgrade from premium to personal if I feel like premium is overkill for my use? Will the price I pay be adjusted inline with what plan I switch to?

Thirdly, I may not be responsible for maintaining the website next year. If next year the society’s committee decides that they don’t want to pay for WordPress and ask me to cancel the plan after this year, I’m assuming that the domain, if bought from WordPress, will revert from abc.com to abc.wordpress.com. However, if I bought the domain from Google and it is valid for say 5 years, will next year’s committee be able to keep hosting the website as it is, for free on WordPress (while still paying Google for the domain)? Even if I used premium themes when building it this year?

Apologies for the long and wordy questions, any help/answers will be appreciated!

    Thanks
