best solution for an updatable gallery

Hi to all,
I need a custom gallery for a portfolio site. There wont be any content but gallery on the page. Gallery must be easily (idiot-proof) updatable from wp-admin. And images will be sorted by date desc on page. What do you suggest? Should i use post methods to recieve db entries and show them how i want them to be. And of course can you please explain how can i do that? Or should i use a plugin? Which one?

!please consider that gallery must be easily updatable within admin page!
