Best way to accomplish *Simple* Gallery

  • I’m brand new to WP, but have dealt with CSS before so not completely in at the deep end. I’m converting an existing plain HTML/CSS site to WP, and love the plug and play functionality for lightbox type events.

    What I want is a simple gallery for pages and posts that will allow me to use my existing image folder structure. I’ve looked at Nextgen, awsom and a couple of other galleries as well as the in built WP gallery feature. All of these seem to require me to either load images through separate UI and into folder structures, rather than just allow me to pick up the pictures I want to display.

    The ability to auto thumbnail would be great too, as the only page I’ve so far got looking and functioning at all how I want is showing thumbnails I had to create myself, and just using a floated left img tag which link to the full size image.

    Is what I’m asking even possible, or am I going to have to reorganise my pictures and load them through WP?

    I just need a slide show for all the images I have in a directory.

    I thought I had found one in Creative Clans, until I discovered it was only for widgets. It had a fix for embedding in posts, but I am far too simple a soul to understand that and in any case, I do not need that complication in my life.

    I just want a shortcode [Bob-Slideshow directory path]

    Any pointers please

    I’m not sure if there is a gallery already created that would import all of the pictures from a folder on your site. For Word Press and the plugins to recognize the images, you have to import them into Word Press or the plugin. I personally like Photo Smash as a gallery, it’s super simple. Also for a slideshow I like using Tierra Billboard Manager.

    There is a new and easier way to use widgets in posts. If you want to know how to use it with the creative clans slide show widget, read “Using the WordPress slide show widget in a page/post“

    The creative clans slide show widget does. It’s a feature that doesn’t always work, it depends on the server settings I guess. But it works fine for me ??
