• Hi there,

So, as asked many times by many people, how do I get a full, feature rich WYSIWYG editor? Perhaps a full featured TinyMCE editor? Most editors I tried have many errors, or just don’t work at all. Dean’s FCKeditor doesn’t work, Xinha4WP works with errors…

    Anyone any advice?
    Regards,
    Dennis

  • Enable more TinyMCE features is one option.

What, to you, defines “feature rich”? knowing that might be helpful.

Thanks for replying. With feature rich I mean features like the full featured TinyMCE editor has. I like the ability to make tables. An integrated picture upload feature would also be nice…

To me, a good WYSIWYG editor needs to have image and document upload/management capabilities in addition to the regular staff, creating tables, special characters, etc. There’s only two editors I have come across that do this but both are not without flaws. You’ll need to test both:

Chenpress uses the FCKeditor and if you’ve been looking you’ve likely come across it already.

WYSIWYG Pro is a licenced editor so you’ll need to pay for it but it’s surprisingly good. It offers the ability to upload and manage images and documents and also has a neat little feature allowing you insert snippets of your own code. Give the demo a whirl: https://wysiwygpro.com/

I have found nothing better than the WYSI editor by Mudbomb, https://mudbomb.com/archives/2005/02/02/wysiwyg-plugin-for-wordpress/ .
It makes working with images and formating very easy. It supports resizing, making of thumbnails, and several other useful image options. Text formating is done easily in a MS Word type of editor. It has support for thesaurus, dictionary, and encyclopedia.

I’ve been using it for over a year and couldn’t be happier. I currently use it with WP 2.1 and it works perfectly.

I wish Mudbomb rewrite the plugin page (or create new post/page with the most recent date), so that general wp users can easily find this plugin available for 2.1 version.

I’d just like to be able to simply change text color and size. I haven’t found anything (that actually works) that does this. ??

Color is built in with a bit of tweaking

It looks like you have to install another plugin to get this one to work.

I think I’ll just use plain ol’ html.

    thank you!

That plugin linked to another page that tells you how to do the same thing — without a plugin.

But yeah, if you want to control fonts on the fly, the html editor is probably the way to go.

I know, I went to both pages.

    Thank you ??

Guys, thanks for all the replies.

I just can’t understand why WordPress will not include a more advanced rich editor out-of-the-box.
This doesn’t change my opinion that WordPress is a cool product though.

I agree, on both counts, betwixt

I wrote WP Super Edit a while ago, and I’m hoping to get some time to change it up a bit. It’s working for 2.0.4 and 2.1.x so far and includes some other common tinymce plugins like the style attribute editor and the “dreaded” tables editor. It’s still labeled as beta, but I plan to move the current code to a 1.0 release before I tackle a more elegant solution for adding tinymce plugins.

Just forgive the funky web site, I do way too much testing there for clients and the day job.

I don’t really care so much about alot of bells and whistles, as much as I do about being able to manipulate my text, i.e. change color, font size, etc.

So, I’ll give it a whirl, thanks!

Looks interesting ev3rywh3re. Will give it a try. Wish the ‘make you better looking‘ feature was included though :p

    Hope it helps ??
