• I came back to Gutenberg after failed forced integration with WP in core. It’s been a few years and I have to say it is much better now, BUT STILL it’s a huge waste of everyone time.

I just can’t accept the fact, that there are many talented developers involved in this project. It seems unreal, how much money must be burned – just for something – nobody actually asked for.

As a developer myself I saw a huge potential in theme customizer. It just needed some more tools and better core support.

What comes in mind with Gutenberg?
    – nobody likes it
    – nobody asked for it
    – nobody wants it
    – everybody installs classic editor fallback

It’s a miracle you actually worked with community and support custom post meta fields( aka ACF and other ), but I remember when you just threw the Gutenberg as a default post editor and destroyed everybodies websites.

  • Hi @dualjack.

Thank you for your review and for having given the block editor a second try. I can totally understand that the pace of things moving forward can feel slow and how this can lead to frustration. I would challenge the assumption that nobody likes it, but I understand that feeling too.

You mentioned that you saw some improvements and also that you see a lot of potential in the theme customizer. If you could spare a few minutes elaborating on those two points, I would be very in any actionable feedback that we can pass on to the devs working on this.

    Thank you!

@dualjack Have you also noticed you need more CSS then ever before to correct the gaps, spacing, alignment, responsive view (yes I am aware some “stack”), the “welcome” nag is still set by a cookie …

I think they are on to something “good” but even to this day the WELCOME NAG is still set by a cookie when it should be stored in the database and binded to the dismiss function like every other developer on this platform does. Why they ignore the community amazes me, the solution to the toolbar blocking content you are trying to edit was locking it to the top of the editing window… guess where that setting is stored… in a cookie. So you know, when you clear your cache you can do it all over again for every site you run or manage … lol.

    Simple stuff like this, ignored.
    Makes no sense.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share, @xolite .

So you know, when you clear your cache you can do it all over again for every site you run or manage.

There is always room for improvement, sure! Please free to open an issue if you want to suggest a better method to handle this. You can use the “[Feature] NUX” tag in the Gutenberg GH repo.

I would encourage you to write a separate review of your own if you want, this was @dualjack’s own review after all.

Thank you all for your thoughts, please keep them coming!

Sounds good, I appreciate your encouragement. It was @dualjack’s review, one I felt the need to reply to, after all.

    You’re welcome, will do.
