Hello, I usually use better search and replace to replace old urls with new urls. However, I recently started using Elementor plugin. A lot of my text is in the text description of the Elementor plugin. The urls within Elementor are not getting updated. Does Better Search and Replace work with Elementor? Any ideas?

  • Hi @maximlib ,

Better Search Replace Support Team here. Thanks for reaching out with your query, we would be happy to assist!

Some WordPress page builder plugins encode URLs before saving them in the database. It’s possible this is happening in your case.

If you are searching for //www.yourdomain.com/ , please could you try searching for %2F%2Fwww.yourdomain.com%2F instead? Some page builders convert slashes (/) to %2F in the database.

Let us know how it goes for you.

In my case at least, Elementor does NOT encode URLs in the database as you described, but it does save them in JSON, so forward slashes are preceded by backslashes. To make my search-and-replace work, I had to put backslashes in both the search term and the replacement. Apparently BSR doesn’t detect JSON encoding and do this automatically, which is disappointing.

The Better Search and Replace plugin does not seem to work with Elementor at this time. However, Elementor actually has it’s own find/replace tool for updating the URLs across your website. This tool helps ensure all instances of the URL are updated, and it’s worked better than anything else I’ve found.

To update old URLs to new ones in Elementor, you can use the?Replace URL?tool. Here’s how:

    • Go to?Elementor > Tools > Replace URL.
    • Enter your old and new URLs.
    • Click?Replace URL.

    Hi @wbeaumo ,

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll let our dev team know about this. If we get enough requests for this feature we may consider adding it in a future version of Better Search Replace.

    Hi @hvacgrowthlab ,

Thank you for providing that workaround, it definitely helps!

Let us know if you have any other questions.

For me, it doesn’t even seem to be able to switch simple sentences.

    Hi @stender89 ,

May we know if you are also including the wp_postmeta table? I did some few tests, and I thought texts weren’t getting replaced. After some digging I saw that Elementor also posts data in the wp_postmeta table.

@dbisupport i did indeed include both posts and post meta tables. A lot of changes were made ind the db, and some words did change. So it might have something to do with ?,?,? and /, lige A/S did not change. Neither did A\/S if you’re wondering.

@dbisupport if you build this functionality in, please tag me. I’ll happily buy a license tomorrow as this is a huge problem.
