betterdocs should help seo because of the docs being indexed. But it does bad things to every other page and I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

Using betterdocs and now I have several problems. Within 2 days my keywords rank dropped between 10-30 spots. Main keywords dropped 20 spots.

It injects stuff onto every page, even ones not using docs or shortcode or anything to do with it at all

    Here are the issues:

    1. Just activating betterdocs adds 650 lines of inline style onto every page, even ones unrelated to docs. You don’t have to touch the customizer for this to happen.

    2. adds render-blocking resources onto every page: betterdocs/admin/assets/css/font-awesome5.css?ver=2.0.14

    3. adds unused css rules onto every page: betterdocs/admin/assets/css/font-awesome5.css?ver=2.0.14

    4. adds about 50kb and 5 requests onto every page, which delays load by about 0.4s and initial server response time by 0.2s.

    5. loads fontawesome font files when seemingly unused. I’m looking at all the icons and they’re not FA so not sure why it’s being loaded.

This is very bad, I’m not sure how it can be designed this way. Or if it’s worth using with this revelation.

    Hi @mayy3321 ,

Hope you’re doing good. Thanks for reaching out to us.
As per your findings, we’ve fixed the Font Awesome loading onto every page issue in one of our dev branches today which is in a testing phase now.

We will release a new version where these font-awesome issues will be fixed.

Regarding the inline CSS, we’ve already discussed this topic here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/view-page-source-multiple-lines-of-betterdocs-css-showing-up/

However, we will improve our asset loading system gradually in the future.

    Thank you!

You are right activating BetterDocs added 70kb to my pages.
I decided to desactivate and delete the BetterDocs plugin but even after deleting the 70 Kb are stil there.

Could you please explain how you did manually delete it.

    Thanks.

    Hi @ldeschenes ,

I’ve just talked with our dev team lead. There should not be data/assets left on your website/page source after deleting the BetterDocs plugin from your website.

Could you please give me a screenshot or page URL so that we can check your page source and assist you with this?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you!
