• Alas! Yet another, otherwise quite useful, plugin that ruins user trust by incorporating snoopy code.

My take: Go Pro, if you must, but don’t play with users’ trust.

It earns two stars, because it actually still works – which isn’t the norm when you run spyware-infested code.

The plugin is not to be trusted or recommended, though, since you never know, when it will stop working without you giving away even more of your personal data.

    Hello,

the Freemius API is a free, non-untrosive API that helps me get some basic data, like the WP version or language of the plugin user. This data is then used to solve problems quickly or give a better support, which, of course, I am giving for free.

When you first activate the plugin, you can clearly disallow these data collection and the plugin will still work as expected.

Before giving a bad review, please get some time to write it.

    Thanks

Hi @gahapati, my name is Vova Feldman and I’m a co-founder at Freemius. I just wanted to join the conversation and mention that you don’t have to share any data, it’s absolutely optional and won’t happen without your explicit permission. Spyware is when someone collects data without your knowledge, which is definitely not the case here.

The main reason developers like Raul (@xyulex) are using usage-tracking is to gain some insights and make the plugin better based on concrete data. You can learn more about it here:
