    Hello,

    Its great to have audio added to the stories. Just a few basic things:

    1. Can I limit the audio to the length of the story?
    2. How do stop the audio from from looping once it has played through?
    3. Can I enable the audio by default when the user sees a story, and leave it their discretion to mute if they want?

    Can I limit the audio to the length of the story?

    There is no possibility to limit the audio length, it simply loops when ended.

    Also, “length of the story” is ambiguous because users can tap back and forth between pages, interact with them, click on links, etc. It wouldn’t really be possible to time this right.

    It’s not currently possible to disable the looping as the Web Stories format itself doesn’t support this.

    No, browsers don’t allow you to just autoplay sound without user interaction. So that’s not a limitation in the Web Stories format, but a restriction in browsers.

    Thank you for the clarifications. I get point 3.

    As for 1 – Is it not possible to edit the audio per frame, as per its play time? This can be done when editing the story itself. So irrespective of which frame the user clicks, it always plays back the same part of the audio. As for links, when a user moves away from the current window, the audio can be stopped. I know these are currently not possible, just exploring the possibility of implementing the same.

    Then for 2 – The story doesn’t loop back, and the length of the story is defined by the sum of frame time of all frames. So moment that finishes, can the audio not be stopped, if not stopped from looping? Again just exploring

    From a Web Stories format/standard side the things we can do with story-level background audio are unfortunately a bit limited. So while your ideas sound feasible in theory, in practice the format doesn’t support this at the moment.

    To make your ideas a reality, I recommend filing a feature request on the Web Stories format over at GitHub. Our plugin builds upon this standard, so only if that standard adds support for this are we able to implement this in the editor.
