big Responsive Theme update available (link broken)
-
I see the following notification in my dashboard this morning:
WARNING: There is a big Responsive Theme update available. Please read the update page before updating.
The update page link, however, is broken.
-
Can you elaborate on how it broke? As mentioned in my post above, the changes were mostly to admin.
Hi,
The theme update had changes only related to the admin dashboard look. Can you please let me know the issues faced by you, so that I can assist further ?
Thanks.
It did affect my installation in my trying to update a youtube video I had on my home page in the Featured Content area. I had iframe code to display the video. When I tried to update it, I got some sort of ajax message and asked me if I wanted to whitelist the page. I did. saved and the video was eliminated. When I editted again, the code was gone.
Can you please advise how to display a youtude video in the Featured Content area?
Thank you, jim
@jwurster whenever embedding videos I tend to use Advanced Responsive Video Embedder (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/advanced-responsive-video-embedder/) allows you to create a shortcode and you should be able to then use that in the Featured Content area.
Hope that helps!
Hi @jwurster,
Sorry for the late reply.
To embed a video in the Featured Content Area; in the editor select the ‘Text’ tab and kindly paste the iframe here. By default the ‘Visual’ tab is active, hence pasting an iframe code will not work there.Hope this helps.
Thanks.Thanks for the reply @judge-mentals
Thank you for the info, but I couldn’t wait and am using another theme.
Oh, sorry for the delay.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do.Thanks.
today, during a periodical maintenance check on an website for a congress of some month ago, I saw the warning notification we are talking about in this thread.
first thing: after reading all the comments here and after having backupped (as always) I decided to upgrade and everything is fine both in the front and in the back end.
that said, I am very grateful for this very good free theme, so I hope my observations would be seen as positive as they intend to be.
if I read something like “WARNING: There is a big Responsive Theme update available. Please read the update page before updating”, it means to me: “do NOT upgrade before reading the update page because IF YOU DON’T READ IT and DON’T TAKE ACTIONS something could go TERRIBLY BAD and it will be YOUR FAULT”.
so basically I do not upgrade until I read it all, fine prints included.
now, the link is not actually broken, but it lead to a page that says “Expired Account
The HubSpot account associated with the domain “content.cyberchimps.com” has expired”. so there’s no way I can read what the upgrade is about and if there’s something I MUST do to avoid things going REALLY BAD. also “expired account” automatically make think something like “they’re OUT OF BUSINESS!”. if you are a beginner and you’re not used to search in forums etc. you’ll get anxious.so I suggest to modify the link to point to a cyberchimps.com owned page that says “the major update we’re talking about regards substantial improvements in the administration interface, please look at our efforts to give you a better content admin interface. and by the way, all your frontend content, plugins, custom stuff in functions.php and style.css etc. are safe and will work as intended.”
in the end, I made some significant custom alterations before the major upgrade, so my website wasn’t just a plain vanilla Responsive child, and I upgraded without any problem, so if you’re in the same situation, I’d advise to upgrade.
thanks again to Cyberchimps for the theme and for the clarification messages here.
Thanks for writing.
Yes – the major update in previous version has admin interface change. All front end will work fine.
About the broken link – we fixed that issue as well.
Thank you for your kind words.-

Hi @cyberchimps,
About the broken link – we fixed that issue as well.
No, I still see the “broken link” today what brought me to this forum. Like the others, I was worried about the big update.
Thanks anyway for your theme I’ve been using for a long time with a lot of customizations in a child theme.
Confirmed: the page linked from the warning message is still down. The address is https://content.cyberchimps.com/responsive-2-migration. What I see is:
Expired Account
The HubSpot account associated with the domain “content.cyberchimps.com” has expired.Confirmed as well:
Expired Account
The HubSpot account associated with the domain “content.cyberchimps.com” has expired.Hi,
The major update that was available was UI change which did not require that link. It was only creating panic when it was not required. So we have removed that link from theme. So when I said that broken link issue is fixed it meant that it has been removed.
Thanks.
Hi,
No, the link has not been removed. I see it now (in french) : “Attention Il y a une grosse mise à jour disponible pour le thème Responsive. Merci de lire page de mise à jour avant de mettre à jour”.
In any case, removing a link is not a solution. Already, the last time I waited a very long time before updating because I could not find explanations on the modifications that supposed this update. I love this theme but a little more transparency would be great!
Thanks
Hi,
This issue has been resolved. Can you please check with the latest version 2.5 of the theme ? If the message still exists, can you please clear your browser cache and check once ?
I am really sorry for the confusion that was caused some time back.Thanks.
