• There is still loads of design type stuff to do but I like to tweak and update as I go so I figured I would tell people about my new blog.

https://www.binarymoon.co.uk/

The blog will be a tech one primarily talking about web design and video game design & developement.

The design i based entirely on my own fevered imagination. If you read my most recent thread you will see I went through quite a few ideas to get to the final design – and I’m now thinking about changing the site to a single column design… I’ll sit on that one for a bit though. Need a chance to finish what I have so far.

Any thoughts on absolutely anything are appreciated.

• Me likes ?? I spent about 10mins looking at your blog looking for some weird errors/colors and stuff, but really got nothing on it. Nice work there ?? Keep it up mate.

I’ve been to your site before and the site looks as impressive now as it did then. Good job.

MaxT – thanks – I’ve been designing websites for years so hopefully there aren’t any design errors ??

IfElse – cool. Your site is in my rss reader – mainly because of your posts about wp query. They helped a lot when I was putting together the recent posts and link blog at the bottom of the homepage.

brilliant mate, just really aesthetically pleasing and a piece of cake ot navigate. quality

Really nice design, clean and engaging.

Really nice design, great job

Looks great. On the recent posts and link blog at the bottom, the bg image repeats over the links making them unreadable. The “jump to navigation” link is also about 10,000px off, causing the browser to have a lot of tan space to the right. All in all though i like the design.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the nice words.

Amory – what browser are you using? I don’t see any of those problems in the browsers I have access too (IE and FireFox on the pc). I’m going to check things in Opera now to make sure it’s not that.

The jump to navigation link should be pushed off to the left rather than the right. I’m not sure what you mean about the backgroundimage problem.

Very nice and clean – the way I like them ??

As a matter of interest how do you do your link blog?

Thanks

Thanks ??

I don’t understand – have you got an example?

at the footer of your page. Links to external sites ??

Ah – sorry – should have re read it the first time ??

I used the query posts thing to get the posts in the link category and then display that. The actual code from the template is

< ul>
< ?php query_posts(‘cat=4’);
if (have_posts()) : while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
< li>< a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>” title=”Permalink for : < ?php the_title(); ?>”>< ?php the_title(); ?>< /a>< br />
< ?php endwhile; endif; ?>< br />
< li class=”rssfeed”>< a href=”https://www.binarymoon.co.uk/category/links/feed” title=”Link Blog Feed”>RSS< /a>< /li>
< /ul>

I had to add a few spaces cos it wasn’t displaying properly

I’m using safari. The jump to nav part doesn’t exist anymore and the linklist at the bottom (class=”list”) has a background-image which repeats, masking all the text. I don’t know why this is, because you have no-repeat set. Anyway it’s fine in Firefox.

The colors you’re using are both off the wall and wholly unique. Very nice! I’d never imagined anyone in a million years thinking up that color scheme, but you’ve made it work.

amory – thanks for that. The ‘jump to nav’ link should only be visible when you give it focus (on the pc you press tab to jump through links) – it’s mainly there for people with screen readers since the content is all first in the html. I also sorted out the massive horizontal scrolling (the same thing happened in Opera). Still haven’t seen the background problem. Will have to get onew of my Mac using friends to bring his laptop round so I can work out what the problem is.

CrystalLich – cheers ?? I normally go for fairly subtle, coordinated colours and wanted to try something a bit different.
