• I’ve got two and a half issues that are driving me nuts, and any help would be highly appreciated.

Issue 1: on: wp-admin/index.php the footer doesn’t load. anywhere else in the backend, the footer loads fine, but not for the dashboard. This started today. Possibly related, the recent comments and incoming links are now empty. When I click “Configure Recent Comments” — the footer shows up (because we’re on wp-admin/?edit=dashboard_recent_comments#dashboard_recent_comments and not just index.php anymore). But they still come up empty. There are comments. They used to show up. Did I mention that the footer loads on every other subpage in the back end?

Issue 2: Quite possibly related, this seems to come and go — but often, the any given page on the back end will come up blank. hitting refresh loads it without error, which also confuses me. I’ve uploaded and deleted some plugins, but I haven’t touched the core files.

Issue 2.5: This is just bizarre, but it doesn’t really break anything. I’ve got a handful of plugins that have updates available, and most of the time, the number under “Updates” is consistent. But sometimes, it’s twice what it should be, or more.

    Thanks in advance,

    Martin

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

For the issues I’m having today: There aren’t any new plugins. There were, but they’re gone. All the other plugins have been up and working both when the backed is good, and when it’s on the fritz, so I’m not sure they can be attributed to the issue.

It could be the theme (I designed it, and I’m I’m certainly fallible) but: How would a theme be influencing the back end?

Switching out the theme isn’t really an option, since the site is live and it would be more than a cosmetic change — what is there to do?

Any why would the WordPress footer (not that I really need it…) not load on one page, but load fine on every other?

These are basic troubleshooting steps. Any theme or plugin can create issues in the Admin area.

Understood. But why would a plugin that hasn’t been updated start causing a new problem?
