• Hello Bjoern. You can see my situation entirely here:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/how-to-force-creation-of-thumbnail-when-image-doesnt-exist?replies=5#post-5414971

But to make a long story short, I used a plugin on many of my posts (but not all) that added a watermark which EXTENDED the size of the image (instead of inline). To make things more complicated, the original image has the watermark extension on it as well.

I’ve recently changed themes and regenerated thumbnails. It’s a complete mess now with some images having 13 different crop sizes. What I want to do is delete all thumbnails and go through all original images and crop the watermark out, and re-upload without the dimension changing watermark and replace with an inline watermark instead so I never need to deal with this again. But as you can imagine, that will obviously change the dimensions of all thumbnails because the original size has changed… Which will screw up several hundred posts when they request a size which isn’t there.

I read what you wrote here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/a-modified-and-extended-plugin-version?replies=12

And am wondering if your solution is possibly what I need. I really wish WordPress looked for an image named size instead of dimension. It would make life a lot easier. (eg horsepicture-wpsmall, horsepicture-wpmedium).

Thanks for any suggestions. As I see it now, I need to go through and crop watermark out of all originals, then go through every single post and replace the pictures. A daunting task.

WPPP won’t do exactly what you want. In a way it would help: Your problem will be, that your posts will contain image links with (probably) wrong dimensions, which will result in broken images. With the dynamic resize Feature of WPPP those images would get created with These “wrong” dimensions but they will be cropped to that “wrong” size (if an Image could be resized without being cropped, then the link would work anyway). So using the dynamic resize feature might be of help to you, even though it’s no a real solution.
