• Hello everyone, I have a problem of experiencing black, blank page on my website . I’m not very tech savvy, please excuse if the description of the error is not accurate:

    Error: Homepage is accessible, the first click to a link is always redirected, clicking on another link causes a black blank screen and new page is not loaded (the link does not change)
    Example: The first click to either of the 4 main pages on the left menu will work, but clicking on any other link will cause the black blank page to appear. Including in admin mode, clicking on ‘Edit Page’ (for example) will cause the black blank page to appear.

    I have tried:
    – Backup: The oldest backup I have is 1 month ago, backing up to this version did not help
    – Disabling plugins: Right now, I only have the following plugins, I deactivated them one by one to see which one is the culprit but I could not find it:
    3D FlipBook – Lite Edition
    Current Menu Item for Custom Post Types
    iThemes Security
    Jetpack
    Optimus
    UpdraftPlus
    – Updating theme: My theme is a customized one, there is no current update for it and nothing has changed on the theme since 2 years.

  • I can see that issue, but on those black pages the html content is still there in the page source. What happens if you disable all plugins *and* activate the WordPress Twenty-Twenty theme?

    I see you changed the theme. Do the page seem to be working as needed now?

    install health check plugin which can be used in troubleshooting mode to deactivate all plugins and theme might help narrow down the source of the issue

    @pidengmor @contentiskey Thank you, with all plugins activated or disabled the WP default theme still works. Does it mean my customized theme is problematic?
    The jQuery Migrate Helper plugin did not help, though I have it installed just in case.
    I’m trying out the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. According to it, I have this following problem:

    Background updates are not working as expected
    A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().

    However, disabling all plugins did not solve the problem.

    If you are using a CDN, maybe try disabling it.

    If your theme has not been updated in a while, it might be a theme issue that needs to be addressed — either by fixing or replacing.

    A bit of experimentation will be needed to find the source.
    Assuming your Plugin, PHP version and WordPress version are updated/current…
    Use the Health Check plugin experiment with your theme and plugins to narrow down which one(s) are triggering the problem.

    -If the site works properly/normally with plugins enabled and default theme > review theme in more detail
    -If the site works properly/normally with plugins disabled and custom theme > review plugins in more detail (enable each plugin 1 by 1 to see which one causes difficulty)
