• Ciao! I’m getting a strange error screen lately, especially when I try accessing wp-admin, I get a full white screen with a black ‘error’ text in the top left corner.

I’m running 3.5.1, 12 12 theme, 512MB ram on an amazon ec2 medium instance on linux.

    these are the active plugins:
    akismet/akismet.php, backupbuddy/backupbuddy.php, better-wp-security/better-wp-security.php, block-bad-queries/block-bad-queries.php, cimy-header-image-rotator/cimy_header_image_rotator.php, disqus-comment-system/disqus.php, easy-adsense-lite/easy-adsense-lite.php, google-xml-sitemap/google-xml-sitemap.php, googleanalytics/googleanalytics.php, gregs-high-performance-seo/ghpseo.php, image-widget/image-widget.php, jetpack/jetpack.php, jquery-smooth-scroll/jquery-smooth-scroll.php, nrelate-flyout/nrelate-flyout.php, nrelate-related-content/nrelate-related.php, really-simple-facebook-twitter-share-buttons/really-simple-facebook-twitter-share-buttons.php, social-media-widget/social-widget.php, wordpress-popular-posts/wordpress-popular-posts.php, wp-google-fonts/google-fonts.php, wp-super-cache/wp-cache.php

I have the sense this may be related to jetpack as when this happens the infinite scroll doesn’t work.

This happens mainly on the wp-admin page, the rest of the site is fine. Also after a while I can access wp-admin, so this error comes and goes.

Any ideas why this is happening? how to fix it?

    Thanks!! ??

    What is the error message?

Hi Kmessinger, there is no error message just a black text saying ‘error’ in the top left corner of the page, the rest of the page is a plain white background.

    this error comes and goes

As you probably know, something that comes and goes is really hard to debug. The normal debug for wordpress is to disable all plugins and add them back one at a time until something breaks but that is pretty hard to do with a random error.

I think you suspect jetpack that is the first one to check.

You also throw RPC errors in testing the script. That means something like a button is not making the connection with the correct server.

You might access your wp-admin with developer tools turned on (IE, F12; Chrome, Ctrl+Shift+J and see if any javascript errors turn up.

Thank you Kmessinger, I’ve also updated Jetpack to the latest version and I’m monitoring the site for errors, I will follow your suggestion if this happens again ??

update this is what i see screenshot

turned on javascript console: it gives me “ignoring: unable to inject below fold”

googled the string no results ??

Is there an active Security plugin for the site?
I got this “error” text when the plugin ban the IP where i try to view the site. Better WP security is set up on the site, I added my email address and when I try to open from a banned IP PC, I got email with “Site lockout notification” and this error on browser.
So I guess, check the security plugin. Maybe your IP is in a blacklist somewhere and that is the reason of the error text.

I hope this info will be helpful for you.

    Hi diablosteve,

Thank you very much for the information! I was just locked out of my own site and only got these pages that the topic holder is refering to. Just “error” with black text.

Well, it turned out that Better WP security had blocked me out. I fixed this issue by going to phpMyAdmin where I found my ip in the “wp_bwps_lockouts” table. Now it was simply to delete this row.

    Hope someone can use it.

    Best Regards,
    Jeppe

    Jeppe,

You’re the best. Had the error text problem as well but followed your advice and site is now working perfectly.

    Thanks from Australia mate!

Wow, same here.. worked like a charm.. I logged in via FTP and renamed the plugin “better-wp-security” and the site came back up
