I have been using the BHammer and it has defo cut down on iffy spambot users, however I have noticed that the plugin seems to work on the entire site.

“The terms below will not be allowed to be used during registration. You can add in full emails (i.e. [email protected]) or domains (i.e. @domain.com), and partials (i.e. viagra). Wildcards (i.e. *) will not work.”

This is great to stop people using certain terms when trying to create an account.
However this same list is also used in the discussion settings, which has resulted in a few topics being banned as they contain the banned terms.

Is it possible to only have the banned terms banned when creating an account, rather than a list of terms that are banned from the entire site?

    Not at this time, no.

The purpose of using the blacklist was that there was considerable overlap between the two goals. That is, of I didn’t want [email protected] registering, I probably didn’t want people commenting about it either.

What terms are you using that people talk about but you want to block?
