Blank blog homepage

    Hi,

    We updated to version 4.8.1, but as soon as we did, the blog’s homepage went blank, ie. to a light blue, but blank.

    We downgraded the version of WordPress, (though have upgraded again to 4.8.1 )but it’s still blank.

    I also tried previewing the blog in another theme (updated Evolve theme – blank in preview).

    How would we overcome this issue?

    We are using Lovecraft as a theme at the moment – would prefer to maintain the theme, most worried about the blank blog crash error.

    Please help if you can,

    I get a 500 error attempting to get your site.

    Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

    Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress

    You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins.

    Hi Steve,

    I didn’t really know how to access the debug_log, but I then installed an Error Log Monitor plugin to try and generate a php-error log, it pointed me to the right plugin to deactivate/remove. Our blog is now active and in good working condition again!

    Glad I made backups before updating. Will close this once I have reactivated plugins and am generally satisfied with integrity here.
