• Resolved I was patmobile

Just installed a new theme and activated it. Now everything is blank and I can’t reverse the activation because there’s no way to see anything on the Themes page – or any other admin pages.

The site is also now just a blank screen.

I can’t tell you the name of the new theme because there’s nothing visible. Can’t remember the WP version but not yet updated to 4.1

    What to do? Help please!

  • If you are able to rename the folder of this newly activated theme, your site should revert to the WordPress default theme.

You could try turning WordPress into debug mode to see the errors.
OR you could alternatively rename the theme folder name to something else which will let you login to the wp-admin backend area.

Thank you schulte and Rajesh for the above replies.

I’m not yet very familiar with WordPress so I would appreciate any help you can give in directing me to some written directions on how to rename the theme folder or to get into debug mode.

Navigate to the / wp-content/themes via FTP or File manager of your hosting panel.

    For debug mode: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress

Thanks rajesh, but I’m a bit worried by the warning I read there, “It is not recommended to use WP_DEBUG or the other debug tools on live sites; they are meant for local testing and staging installs”, so I’ll try renaming the theme folder and see how that goes.

    Appreciate your help,though. Thanks

Okay, just for your information, when you debug a website – you don’t keep the site on debug mode after debugging is complete! It’s only done temporarily!

Many thanks to schulte and Rajesh. Problem solved. Renamed theme folder which resulted in the dashboard reappearing, and then reactivated the previous theme.
