blank first line in xml file throwing error

  • When I go to the sitemap in the browser, I receive the following error due to a blank first line.

    This page contains the following errors: error on line 2 at column 6: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

    Can you advise on a fix for the xml files to eliminate the blank line #1 that WP introduces somehow?
