Blank front page after a few days of inactivity

  • I get a blank front page after ca. 2-3 days of inactivity.

    I have googled this problem, but others who have encountered the “WordPress White Screen of Death“? only seem to have done so immediately after installation or upgrading. I haven’t had any problems after either installing or upgrading – I only experience it when I leave the site alone (no edtitng or change of theme)for a few days. I can make the page appear again by changing themes back and forth, but this a higly unsatisfactory “solution”. I have no plugins installed! I have this problem with both “2011” and “Wu Wei” themes. At the present I am using a modified version of the latter theme.

    I have tried to add the line “php_flag display_errors on” to my .htaccess file and got the following response (source code): `<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”>

    And I have tried to change the value in WP_DEBUG to “true” in
    in wp-config.php and got the message:

    I don’t know what that means – I’m a designer not a developer ??

    I hope someone can help me resolve this blank page problem!!!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    -As stated above I have no plugins installed – have deleted them all – the only thing that excists in the folder 0:/wp-content/plugins/ is an index.php file.

    -Yes I have the same issue with Twenty Ten- or Twenty Eleven theme (can’t remember which).

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    No, with all respect what good would that do? I have changed a few things in the header.php and number of things in the main stylesheet

    Try using an unedited copy of the 2011 theme for about a week and see what happens.

    ok I will delete my 2011 and reinstall it and activate, and see for a week – anything that helps!

    I know it must be frustrating. The advice above may help “- re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.”

    Because if the problem is other css file or header file you changed you’ll get the originals back.

    Another thing I would look at is if you are over disk quota on your hosting account, this can cause problems when you change a file and are over quota .

    That’s all I think think of at the moment, without actually diagnosing it for myself.

    Hmmm – look at my site. I have deleted 2011 and reinstalled it, but my custom background is still present – is that ok or should I delete other stuff?
