• I am experiencing a strange issue after upgrading my site to the latest version of WordPress yesterday… I have been able to upload a PDF to the Media Gallery by setting the PDF file as a Featured Image. I have been doing this daily for the last year. Now, it either gives me an “HTTP error” or, most of the time, it appears to upload the file but it is a blank/corrupt file with no thumbnail. I am not sure what’s happening.

I have checked the various PHP settings (memory and upload size and timeout) and that did nothing. I tried manually changing the upload path as well, which also did nothing. I’m at a complete loss. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Which version of WordPress were you on where it was working?
I don’t remember the version, but it wasn’t that long ago that WordPress started generating thumbnails for other attachment types than images, such as PDF files.

I can’t recall the version I was on just before this (WordPress auto-updated) but it’s been working for the past year or so. I’m on the latest version 4.9.6 now.

This still isn’t working and I am pretty desperate. I’ve tried nearly everything. PDF Thumbnails still don’t work – just gives me a blank thumbnail.
