blank page after updating portfolio item

Hello,

Since a couple of weeks something weird is happening with adding new portfolio items in my WordPress theme.

Our portfolio items have PDFs (smaller than 1MB) in them with technical information. We can create the new portfolio item and save. We can add the PDF to our media library, where we copy the link and put it over a little piece of text within the portfolio item. And every time we “update” after this, the whole website becomes blank for 10 minutes and when it’s back the changes are not made. Other IP addresses can still view the site fortunately but it makes it very hard for us to update anything.

Our server support points out that when clicking “update” they get too many POST requests and the fail2ban shuts the IP address out automatically for 600 seconds.

The template support tell us they have never heard of this problem before and they tell us to ask the server for our IP-address whitelisted. I don’t think its a good solution since IPs change and its not the problem to begin with.

So I am hoping on the expertise of WordPress to tell us what this issue could be.
