• Blank Pages after upgrading
After I upgraded to 1.2, I logged in, then got blank pages! I viewed the source, and it was blank as well. I then went to my home page, and tried to ‘edit’ the 1st entry, and it sent me to a blank page. Any ideas?

  • elmsblog,
When you upgraded, did you also run wp-admin/upgrade.php?

Ok elmsblog. This is wierd. But just to clarify on my fresh 1.2 beta install I needed to run upgrade.php anyway. But I have to say the error was not like yours. Good luck.

when do you run ‘upgrade’? Does it matter? Should I run it before setting everything up, or only when I get ‘stuck’?
    Thanks.

I just re-installed (from scratch) for the 10th time. I tried to ‘upgrade’ before anything else, but it made me install/ set up first. I did, then didn’t even try to log in, but went straight to upgrade. Then I logged in, and… a blank page! I then ‘upgraded’ again… same. I went to my homepage and hit login… blank page.
[I’m going over to this corner with my 1.0.2.]

I have installed the beta about 4 times already, and I never had this problem, so it would help to know what version of php etc you are using, and any other specifics.
In a different thread I read that someone commented out the meta tag related to the charset and end up with no error. Is this the case? You could try commenting out the meta tag line that deals with the charset.
Exceptions like these will really help iron out the problems, and that’s the goal of the beta. Thanks ??

Now it’s happened on 1.0.2! Wow. I’m trying not to get frustrated. I appreciate everyone’s help. OK, to comment out that meta tag, what file am I looking for?
    Php 4.3.2
    Thanks.

This is what my index.php file looks like:

    a€?? @
    a?‘
    a?‘
    a?‘
    a?‘
    a?‘
    o
    o
    a?‘
    o
    o
    o
    o WP

This is interesting. Is that the index in the download. Or aftr the install ? Mysterious to say the least.

elmsblog, whatever that is, that’s not a .php file that can generate an html page ??
Get the index.php page again. If you are uploading using ftp check to see if the correct mode -binary/ascii (ascii is preferred for wordpress files) – is set, though I should think that could not be the only problem.

FINALLY! I got it installed. Here’s the lesson I learned. When creating your wp-config.php manually, DO NOT EDIT it in Word.
Yes, I am ashamed to admit I tried it, and it screwed everything up.
I’m going to hide under a rock now.
