• Resolved urbannest

My blog was working fine all day and earlier this evening but about an hour ago I tried to access the site and all I get is blank white pages.

I am able to log in to the WordPress admin panel and to my Yahoo web hosting control panel.

My current WP version is 2.6.2 (automatic upgrade via Yahoo).

Last week I attempted to manually upgrade to 2.8 without success and reverted back to my previous version via snapshot backups. I have since attempted to install a couple of plug ins (comment counter, highlight admin comments, and tabbed sidebar).

Yahoo does not have any resolution to this problem.

Does anyone here know what might be going on?

    Many thanks in advance, Juliet

  • how about providing a url to your blog.

    Of course. It’s https://www.urbannestblog.com.

    Hi,

    Check with these options:

-> disable all plugins from database and have a check with your blog
-> upgrade your wordpress to the latest version.
-> check the disk space and bandwidth/transfer limit is set ok for your account on hosting server.

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

    Shane,

Thanks so much for your advice. I’ve disabled (deactivated – is that the same process?) the plugins and verified that I have unlimited disk space/transfer limit with my hosting server.

Neither of these two things seem to have corrected the problem. I would very much like to upgrade to the latest version but I’m not confident in my technological skills after my first attempt, which yielded all sorts of inconsistencies.

I’m unclear whether I have a proper backup process in place for WP; I thought I did (via Yahoo) before attempting 2.8 the first time and ended up having to resort to “snapshot” files, which was extremely tedious.

    Any other thoughts?

    add this to your wp-config.php:

    define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’64M’);

    this,

    https://urbannestblog.com/wp-login.php

    isnt normal. at all.

its pretty tough to troubleshoot yahooo issues from afar. it boils down to needing to look at things. really.

Thanks. Not sure what to say the problem might be. I made the suggested edit and I can no longer log in to my WP admin panel; that page, too, comes up blank now.

I went and back and deleted the inserted text and still can’t access the login page.

Does anyone know if there is a point at which a WP associate can log in to an account and attempt to resolve an issue that way?

It’s so hard for anyone to guess what the issues might be without seeing the files…

Quick update: after deleting the inserted text from wp-config.php I CAN log in to the admin panel again. I guess it just needed a little time to reset. Still no go on the actual blog.

there is no “wordpress associate”. WordPress is opensource, free software that provides no guaranteed support other than what you get (for free) on these forums.

as for your getting into the wp-admin area, what I provided you should not have broke that function (of course, its yahoo, so ..), and neither your wp-admin url

    https://www.urbannestblog.com/wp-admin/

or the url that would be your normal wp-login.php url:

    https://www.urbannestblog.com/wp-login.php

work for me. If they work for you, well than the mystery is bigger than both you and I.

There are people around here that do off-forum troubleshooting, however few of us do that stuff for free.

If you need additional help, Im willing to take a look for you, for a very nominal fee. if that sounds like something you might want, shoot me an email at whoo ((((AT)))) village-idiot.org

if that doesnt work for you, you can also post to the jobs site at jobs.wordpress.net

That is one mystery I can solve! Our blog files are stored in a subdirectory /blog3.

    https://www.urbannestblog.com/blog3/wp-login.php

    ahhh, thats much better!

ok, so yahoo provides you ftp access. you need to use that access — go download an ftp client, and connect to your web space using the ftp client..)

Yahoo has a whole series of how to FTP answers and walkthroughs.

    https://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smallbusiness/webhosting/gftp/

See the “using FTP” subheader on the left hand side)

Once you have connected you will need to navigate to where your wordpress install is.

    that should be blog

from blog you need to navigate to wp-content

Once you are “inside” wp-content you will see some other directories – specifically plugins and themes.

You will need to rename your plugins directory. Call it anything you want — just rename it. Once you have done that, do a hard reload of your front page.

    Is it back? [yes] [no]

    Thread Starter urbannest

    (@urbannest)

Its not back, but I do get an “Oops this page appears to be broken” message now, rather than a blank screen.

    Hi Juliet,

Hang in there. I typo’d in my reply above — you need tonavigate to blog3 rather than blog. Did you make that correction?

Do you remember the name of the theme that you were using?

    It should be listed here:

    https://www.urbannestblog.com/blog3/wp-content/themes/

click that link, find the name of your theme, and remember that directory name.

Go back to your ftp clinet, relogin — This time you need to navigate back to blog3/wp-content/ (notice the correction) and I would like you to rename the directory.

This should force wordpress to reset your theme to the default.

    Is it back? [yes] [no]

Its interesting that renaming your plugins page made your wp-login.php go white.

    Thread Starter urbannest

    (@urbannest)

I did catch blog v. blog3 from the previous suggestion. Just to be clear, am I now renaming the theme folder? I am currently using the default theme, with customizations.

ahh, nope that wont work then just like that. lets do this, rename the default directory to default-1, and rename the classic directory to default.

and yes, those would be theme directories.

    anything, nothing?

    Thread Starter urbannest

    (@urbannest)

    Nothing.
